Lady Gaga has again been drawn into Kesha’s ongoing legal battle with Dr Luke.
Over the weekend, the Joanne artist was subpoenaed by Dr Luke’s legal team in the defamation lawsuit, after the music producer claimed texts between Gaga and Kesha held “relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr Luke made to her by Kesha”.
Gaga – who kicks f her Joanne World Tour this week – has publicly supported Kesha since the ‘Praying’ singer first filed her own abuse lawsuit in 2014. Dr Luke responded by counter-suing for defamation, for which Gaga has been summoned.
According to TMZ, the music producer’s lawyers had previously subpoenaed Gaga for her text exchanges with Kesha, but they claimed the material she provided was too heavily redacted to be any use.
Indeed, she may now even be required to attend a three-hour, sit-down interview as part the dispute.
However, Gaga’s legal team has responded with their own statement.
“As Lady Gaga’s legal team will present to the court, she has provided all the relevant information in her possession and is at most an ancillary witness in this process,” they told Variety.
“Dr Luke’s team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga’s role and falsely accusing her dodging reasonable requests.”
According to court documents, more celebrities are being summoned to present information by both Kesha and Dr Luke’s legal teams, so other stars from the worlds music and showbusiness could yet be drawn into the case over the next few months.
